Post Navy Base

O.K. I'm also thinking of moving my family to Hawaii. Being prior military I've had a chance to vist back in 97' on my way to Guam. Question is where or is there a Navy Base on any of the island's? I've read about the club life of the island's yet, which island is best for buying a home in the $120,000-150,000 range? My husband is a Mortgage Lending op specialist and would like to stay in his field, is that even possible? Not to mention reading about the school's not being the best brings tears to my eyes, as we speak my 5yr is in a Performing Art's school ... what's a mother to do?

Just curious why you are picking Hawaii?

Pearl Harbor is on Oahu, big base.

On Oahu, you'd be lucky to find a studio apartment for that much.
I am not certain about other islands, but I don't think they are any better for housing.

July single-family house median was $640,000 and condos was $335,000

My understanding the real estate field is very saturated, but Hawaii also has a low un-employment rate.

Sad, but true.

I love Hawaii, but if I were you, I'd consider other places to live... especially with a child. (Unless you can afford private school).

I really do thank you for your reply. It makes me feel like I'm being selfish, not thinking of my family. I selected Hawaii because of my military past. Taking this time to do my research... which seems to not end here. thank you again.

Hopefully others will give you their opinions. Or read some other threads (lots in the forum about the same topics).

Personally I love everything about Hawaii, less: cost of living and the education system. Although I don't have children, so the latter doesn't effect me directly.
