Unhappy Mortified

I am completely mortified of these critters. TOnight for instance, I walked in from work and found one outside my bedroom door (an addition, so it stands where the garage used to, a new garage is next to it), a baby one outside my door, and one monster one on my bedroom ceiling.

I then walked away for ten minutes, went back and the two big ones were gone - which scared me all the more!

Right now I have chills, fear, paranoia, and can't sleep - especailly down there, so I've moved up stairs for the night.

Please please someone help me - how can I kill them IN MY HOUSE, w/o hurting my two little puppies?!?!?

As stated in previous posts, it is considered bad luck to kill em. Although I have never ever heard anyone claim a centipede as their amakua. I have been biten by one big bugga, hurts for days and days and walking was impossible for almost a week, stayed swollen for a good three weeks. I know someone who was outta work for 7 weeks from a centipede bite, his foot looked like an elephants. The jar and cardboard works well, if yea have em' handy. Myself, if the option is he's gonna skaddle under my bed, I can't help it my slippah works wonders. Do they come in for water, a warm snuggly place, who knows, in reality once spotted they get going real quick, never seen the same centipede twice. So don't worry too much he is long gone by now.

Wait... on the ceiling????? really??? how many?? where do you live and at what elevation??? Are you sure it wasn't a milipede???

As I mentioned before, I had a pretty good sized one on my ceiling on Nuuanu Ave a while back, and I was on the 15th floor!! Now that's determination for a centipede. As was stated before, if you don't startle the little suckers it's pretty easy to catch them and just put them back outside. And the vacum cleaner attatchment also comes in very handy. When I first moved here, one came cruising in through my AC unit, I tried to get it outside with a broom, it crawled into the back of my then state of the art 24" Sony Trinitron TV. I got the back cover off the TV, and sprayed the heck out of it with some raid. Centipede came scurrying out, very much alive, and exited exactly where he had come in. The Sony didn't fare quite as well, I turned it on after letting it air out for a while, and it went poooooffff!! Now I've never claimed to be a genius! Centipedes don't even phase me any more, one crawled over my foot a few months back, I caught it and let it back outside. And Madison, sounds like you're allergic to centipede bites, I've been bitten a few times, never had a reaction like that!

We're having our occasional mouse infestation here in South Maui due to the drought. Thought there was something in my bed the other night, looked around, found nothing, went back to sleep. Wake up just after sunrise, feels like there's something on my shoulder, I glance over, I'm eye to eye with a mouse! Funny thing being that my cat, Popoki, a legendary mouser, is sound asleep at the foot of the bed! Gotta love Hawaii.

Both my cats, Popoki and Ele Ele Popoki are taking their usual 16 hour a day catnap, I hear something, glance over, and there's the mouse eating the dried cat food!! At least a centipede will leave of it's own accord, but when a mouse see's a good deal, you're kind of stuck. I'ld get a mouse trap, but I'm not the killing sort of type, I did, however, think that my two fearless mousers were the killing type, evidently they're on strike. Must be a cat union deal. I suspect they're holding out for fresh ahi!! BTW, Popoki is Hawaiian for cat, and Ele Ele is Hawaiian for black. Thought I'ld keep it simple.

Time to get a resident mongoose, they love centipedes as a little pupu. One of my lolo cats chased a mongoose into my place, then gave me the "here ya go" kinda look, took days to get the guy out of here. I haven't seen a centipede in my place for quite a while, and just saying that is really asking for it!! I'm sure there's one lurking outside as I type!

I'm confused a bit on the descriptions of the bites. Heard it compared to a bee sting, heard it compared to massive swelling, black and blues, and steroid shots. Whatever the case may be, if you hear a high pitched screaming, its me!
