Default Hawaii Stink Eye

I've heard lots of references to "Stink Eye" and in the travel brochures. Anyone have interesting stories about their encounter with stink eye? Also for anyone contemplating a move to Hawaii, how big of an issue is the stink eye. Are there certain areas you should avoid as a mainlander?

Sure you don't mean "pink eye"? I can't imagine any travel brochure that would highlight stink eye. I get it on occaision, normally from haole tourists. If you're coming over here paranoid, you may as well stay put.

Aloha and okolemaluna

Stinkeye is just a dirty look. I got a lot more of them in my life on the mainland than I do here.

And my very tall, very handsome haole SO gives me when I get caught taking a peek at a cute local boy... Works both ways, gentlemen!

(He gets when I catch him looking at blonds--he should know by now that an Irish girl isn't going to stand for that!!)

All in good fun, of course.

i've seen this referred to before but don't know what it is...the evil eye maybe?...a glowering look cast toward a stranger?...something else?
