Default Hawaii County growth stats (Big Island)

Quoted from the Hawaii Tribune Herald, 09/12/07:

"It should come as no surprise to Big Island commuters that Hawaii County is growing rapidly. Anyone who's battled traffic on Queen Kaahumanu Highway or the Belt Road out of Hilo doesn't need to be told Hawaii is experiencing a population explosion.

Data released today by the U.S. Census Bureau confirms what most people already know -- Hawaii County housing is growing at almost triple the rate of the state as a whole and outstripping the growth of the resident population....."

Just came across this posting. So, what do people think is the case now, 2 yrs later? This tripling of housing is likely the glut of foreclosures and short sales, is the traffic down? population?

If the data were released by the census bureau in '07 then it would have been collected in '05/'06 or so, it takes them awhile to gather and process the data. The top of the crazy housing boom around here was late in '05, wasn't it?

Things seem slower these days. Less people with jobs so less traffic on the roads. There does seem to be more folks moving around on the first week of the month than the rest of the month.

Nobody anxious to buy a house before the price goes any higher anymore.
