could the birds have been pidgeons? there's someone here on o'ahu that raises these, "painted" birds. usually they are released during special occasions. i.e. weddings and funerals.
as far as your ghost story, now that is spooooooooky! glad i read your post during the day and not at night.

kani-lehua,
I didn't get that good of a look at the flock because I was driving but I think they could have passed for pidgeons. I wish I could have looked longer or had my camera. It's a sight I'll never forget.

I forget part of the story but if you are in Kauai and traveling through the tunnel of trees (the road which takes you from the highway to Koloa/Poipu) it is advisable not to have pork in your car. I forget the reasoning but its something to do with pork being a meat only for the important people in the ancient Hawaiian communities. Therefore, if you drive through the tunnel and have pork products in your car, something will supposedly happen to your car (usually a break down). You need to get rid of the pork products before you can keep moving (aka your car starts working again). Some friends have SWORN that this happens, and who knows? However, how does the Big Save in Koloa get all of its pork then!?!?
Also, there have been "ghost sightings" at the Grand Hyatt, which is linked to the ancient burial grounds over which the property is constructed.
I'm sure that there are millions of more tales from Kauai, but thats the one that first came to mind!

Those birds might be the "rainbow pidgeons" lol. I think a resident in Pearl City owns them, and they're trained birds, but I haven't seen them in a while. Were they flying around by the arc looking bridge?

Oh Glen Grant rest in peace, was a very kind man! My son and he were friends! My son was a little boy when he met Dr. Grant at a book signing and became friends w/ him. Shortly after he invited him to speak to his class, we then went to his show in Waikiki. My son would visit him after school in his ofc. That man donated all the book proceeds to charity and taught college for a living. He was a very nice man.

This happened fo' real. Both my parents experienced this so I know for a fact it's true. Anyhow the story takes place in Ewa, a small plantation town before Ewa Beach. Now sits Zippy's restaurant across from the old cemetary. Well many years ago when 7 eleven and Zippy's didn't exists, I believe in 1978, that area was just dirt. The bus stop was right in front of the cemetary. Well my dad was there parked in his car waiting for my mom to come home on the late night bus from work. Probably was close to 11pm. My mom had arrived and sat on the passenger front seat. Well my Dad heard someone trying to open the passenger door behind him. He asked my mom if her friend needed a ride? My mom said "no" and was also startled with his question. My mom told my dad to just quickly "go... hurry". He saw in his rear view mirror a lady trying to get in, with no feet. He was scared but not scared enough to zoom outta there! My parents said it was a good thing he was smoking his cigar, they say that ghosts are afraid of it. Never did her pick her up at that bus stop again!

Another story, again involved my parents. My mom and dad worked hard to make ends meet. Even after my Dad retired from the plantation, sometimes they both go to work at Aloha Stadium to clean up and earn extra money. Well on their way home, driving on Renton Road passed Ewa School and the old Ewa Store. They saw an old soldier with red flaming eyes with a whip staring at them as they drove passsed. My parents were both in disbelief but thanked God they got home safe!
I've got plenty stories of Ewa Mill. scarey ones! just email me if you like hear some more!
