Default Any Hawaii ghost stories out there?

I thought this might be kind of interesting. With all the ethnic diversity over here, and various beliefs and superstitions, has anyone heard a Hawaii ghost story?
When the Polo Beach Club down past Wailea was being built, it was rumored that a Hawaiian Heiau had been disturbed during the ground work. Local guys had been hired for security at night, and pretty soon they all quit. The very first owners to move in, from Canada, were the sole occupants of the place one night, and were amazed that a Hawaiian was running down the beach around midnight carrying a lighted torch. They called the yet to be onsite management company to compliment them on the little show, and management asked, "what show, we didn't hire anyone to run down the beach with a torch".
Chicken skin!!!

Aloha and okolemaluna

Paniolo Cowgirl is on a distinguished road
I can't remember them but I've heard lots of Big Island ghost stories. Some of them, are of people driving by the volcano and seeing a long haired woman at the side of the road (Pele). Sometimes they see the long haired woman in the back seat of their car.

There are stories of the ghost road in Kapoho where your car will roll up the hill. More stories of a ghost road in Olaa.

Then there are the stories of the Hawaiian ghost marchers - don't know if this is the right name for them. They are the spirits of ancient Hawaiian warriors who march on a specific path and if your house is near or in the middle of their path, strange things happen.

There's a lot of mana in the islands.

I was working on a house near Keonekai years ago, became very friendly with the owners, both in their mid 70's. Went to work there one morning, and the owner told me he was sitting out late the previous evening, and a number of Hawaiians came walking through his yard, and disappeared into the darkness. Now this fellow was a retired Rockwell engineer, and had done a lot of the design work on the Apollo Project, so I doubt if he was making it up!

My SO worked at Daniel Thiebaut's Daniel Thiebaut Restaurant - Located in Waimea on The Island of Hawaii in Waimea bartending for a little while after arriving on-island. This was several years ago, but he says there are stories of the restaurant being haunted. He had an odd experience or two during late night closes that he still talks about. Not sure of the details, maybe someone can fill us in?

I also took a Hawaiian Studies class once upon a time and the instructor, Tom "Pohaku" Stone, told us a few stories about the "Night Marchers" that still run through my head when I am near the mountains at night!

Want to see the movie??
The Night Marchers Home page for the movies
Honolulu Star-Bulletin Features Newspaper article about the first in the series.

By the way, I haven't seen them, but know a few people who worked on the production crew. I can't give a recommendation!

There's a story here on Maui about a woman who had just been married, back in the 30's, and was being driven to Kahului from Lahaina. I don't know how many of you are familiar with the old Pali, but back then it was a very dangerous road, you can still see portions of it to this day, and I can't imagine what it would have been like trying to drive it at night. Story has it that her husband was in a seperate car, and the brides car went off the cliff around the lighthouse at Macgregors Point, and she was killed. I worked with a guy number of years back, local guy, and he said he was driving back to Lahaina late at night, saw a women in a white dress walking on the side of the road, was going to turn around and give her a ride, looked in his rear view mirror, nobody there!!
Chicken skin!!!

There was, and still is I believe, a restaurant way back in Iao Valley, had many owners over the years, and no one could make a go of it. Just too much wierd stuff going on. Buddy of mine worked there when it was Pinot's, said he went to open the place up one morning, and all the chairs were on top of the tables!! He thought it was just maintenance, but it wasn't. Don't forget one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history took place up in Iao Valley, when the stream ran red with blood!
CHICKEN SKIN!!!

just a correction, they're called nightmarches, and if you go in their path, it's said they'll take your soul unless you strip naked and lie facedown on the ground. Scary huh?
