Thanks, I don't think my sweetie will have too much to mail back to me, but good to know that it will take time and that we need to work around it if he does (maybe some Kona coffee? yummmmm).
My recommendation would be to have him send you some Ka'u coffee instead. For those in the know, Kona quality has slipped in the last few years, while at the same time Ka'u coffee has begun beating it in top competitions.
Ka'u is on the windward side, south of Puna, and it's coming on strong in the world of top quality coffees. A Flat-Rate box full of Ka'u coffee would make a very nice "wish-you-were-here" gifty.
Um, okay, but he doesn't exactly have "shopping opportunities" being out to sea...I'll take what he can send!!! Come to think of it, what he can buy and ship is probably a big fat zero. Oh well, it was nice to dream for a while.
When I shipped my Miata to USVI, I ordered some nice car seat covers from Hawai'i and paid a lot extra for priority mail...ordered a dozen pareos in the same order (I live in them at home)...I think it took three weeks from HI to USVI. I was so disappointed in the shipping time after paying for priority mail. Love the car seat covers and pareos though.
I routinely send the USPS flat rate boxes to the mainland. they arrive to various cities in the Midwest and South in as little as two days, but usually three days. Rarely does it take more than three.

I've tried a few Kau coffees... maybe I got some lower quality ones. I have to say that I prefer Puna coffee.
During a recent stay at a Hilo hotel, enjoying the morning breakfast the waiter filled up the coffee mugs and said it was 50% Kona and 50% arabica blend. I said "I prefer Puna coffee" and the waiter said "EVERYTHING IS BETTER IN PUNA!"
And on the topic, I just today sent another package to sweetie from the US post office in America's Third World, and tracking says it will be there Saturday. That simply amazes me.
And another one!!! He remembered just a few more items he needs and the box was there in three days.
I think I'm going to be using a lot of these flat rate boxes when we move for stuff we don't want to wait for...they will get to our new home before we do!!! (Landlord has agreed to accept them and hold them for us.)
Yes, Priority Mail (First Class) service to Hawai'i is great, and Flat Rate packs are a bargain.
Unfortunately, going back the other direction the service is a little less reliably swift.
everyone is in a hurry to get to Hawaii, not many in a hurry to leave
