I'm a Google Earth user, and I've just stumbled across these structures between Waianae/Maili and the mountains, and they've *****ed my curiousity.
I've used Google keywords 'Waianae' and 'military' and 'foot of the mountain', and there is a suggestion that these are old military structures known as 'Schofield Barracks'. Is that what they are? They are in parallel lines on a north-south axis. Many thanks Guy London, UK |

Aloha. My father was stationed at Schofield Barracks during WWII. It is at Wahiawa in central Oahu. I believe the structures you're seeing at Maili are part of a Naval reservation, possibly Lualualei.

Schofield is still there and running. I think it does extend pretty far west, and there are other military reservations in the area up there.

Schofield extends to the ridges of the east side of the Waianae's. The west side of the Waianaes directly opposite is Lualualei naval communication station, which has large towering antennas that are used to communicate with surface and sub ships. Both bases are highly active and restricted from public access. A famous mountain pass exists between the two to traverse the Waianaes -- Kolekole pass, which is, again, restricted to access unless you have military base priviledges.

Lualualei Navel Magazine, located between Waianae and Maile, is a munitions depot, among other things. Those structures you see are probably the bunkers. Definetely a "No Fly Zone"! Check out this link.
