Question Moving from Laie to Kaneohe

Aloha,

I am currently in school in Laie with my husband and will finish in December. He will then start his student teaching in January in Kaneohe. We are trying to find a simple, cheap apartment we could rent from January to June of next year but it seems everything I can find either says their waitlist is a few years or to contact them in December to see if there are openings.
Is there any way to find a place now that would have openings in January? We've never rented an apartment other than the one we are in now that is part of our school's housing system so we are really unfamiliar with how to find a place! Being in Hawaii, it seems like none of the rentals have websites, phone numbers or workers to answer the phones they do have! what is the best way to contact people about the apartments?

Thank you!

You could try posting on craigslist under Housing Wanted - but I wouldn't expect much if any of a response for housing in December/January

Look on craigslist. You may be better off living in someone's ohana unit (an attached but private apartment built onto a house) than in apartments. Craigslist also has a ton of apartments as well.

There are a few rental buildings in Kaneohe, but to be perfectly honest, they are pretty ghetto and you do not want to live in them. Most of the desireable apartments here are condos, which means that you'd be renting from either a property management company or directly from the owner.

As was said before craigslist is the place to look for rentals. Just watch out for the scams and don't send any money to missionaries in Africa. Some people will say look in the newspaper but since it costs and no one hardly buys the newspaper anymore...seriously there's the internet. When you rent it's a strong possibility that your credit score and references will be required. It's best if you can find a local private owner.

You can also make an account in craigslist and advertise yourself under rentals wanted (it's free).
