Yes, Kailua Kona is on "the Big Island" of Hawaii. There are hundreds of activities available here.

Your other thread has lots of good advice in it already. You can always Google map locations to see how close they are to the resort

Your confusion is somewhat understandable, because Kona is a common word in the Hawaiian language... it refers to the leeward, or dry side of an island.

In this case it refers to a large district on the western side of the County of Hawai'i, aka the Big Island.

It's also the everyday name of one particular population center there, near the airport. This village was originally referred to as Kailua, but since there's a bigger Kailua on Oahu, Kailua-Kona became the official Post Office designation for this specific place. But in everyday use, people just call it Kona.

Well, it is Kona. The District of Kona as opposed to the Ka'u, Puna, Hilo, Hamakua or Kohala districts. However, the town there is Kailua. If you want to get confused, try Waimea and Kamuela. The town is named Waimea but the post office and airport are named Kamuela because of too many Waimeas in Hawaii. Hawaii the state, not Hawaii the island. Which is another problem, when calling things "Hawaii" do you mean the island or the state?

A lot of our naming of things happened when every island was it's own separate entity so common place names were multiplied. Once most of this island chain became unified under King Kamehameha you'd think they would have renamed a few places, but they didn't so we still have multiples of all the favorite names.
