Question Window tint on vehicle

Is it true that if you ship a vehicle to HI that has illegal window tint that they will either make you scrap tint off or pay a fine per window before you can put your car on the road?

The problem usually happens when you go to get the required safety inspection. Someone posted here recently that they were rejected for the safety sticker by one inspection station because of tinted windows and just went to another station, where they passed.

I'm not exactly sure this will happen but your car will not pass safety inspection with this type of tinting at most service stations and oil change places.

Moderator cut: orphaned comment pertaining to a deleted post.. You'd be amazed at what a little extra kala will get you at a safety inspection, works for me.BTW, it's the real dark tint that won't pass without a little "help".

Aloha

Jungjohann,

This is going to be my problem - real dark tint. In fact, when I had the truck tinted in FL it wasn't legal tint there either. I'm debating about taking it to my local tint guy and having him scrap off old and put new on so that I am legal when I get to HI. If I don't do that, do I only have to pass one safety inspection in my lifetime or is the inspection required several times a year?

Maybe you would be better off just selling the truck, and picking up something over here. I've got an F150 XLT 4WD, at around 13 mpg, it only gets used when absolutely necessary, and I don't think the price of gas will come down any time soon, if ever.......

Selling the truck is an option...but it's paid for so hate to have another car payment.

Like I said, a little money under the table over here will get you a saftey sticker upon the annual inspection. My RSX has no catalytic converter, upgraded exhaust, is pretty much illegal, but $20 over the normal inspection fee gets me a safety sticker every time. I'ld still just sell the truck and get something over here.

Aloha
