The educational system presents many challenges in Hawaii, some of the public schools are very low performing. Many of us resort to private schooling for our children, at least during specific years/grades when when nearby public schools are not up to our standards. Be prepared to need to do a lot of research to learn about the school options.

Finding a home location that offers a university, comm college, HS, middle, and elementary school .... if it was an easy answer, I'd not have a college child on a different island than our home.

Safety is an issue in certain neighborhoods. That is another topic you'll need to do a lot of research, or to work with a knowledgeable realtor (rentals), so you end up in one of our many wonderful safe neighborhoods.

Good luck.

If the person you are getting away from has any sort of felony on his record, then perhaps moving to Canada might be safer. They don't allow felons into their country at all so the border agents would stop him at the border. A DUI would be enough to exclude him from Canada. I don't know if the same is in place with Mexico or not, but you could investigate. It might be safer to migrate out of the country if he has felonies which will keep him from following.

Moving to Hawaii with limited income is not safer, IMHO, since there's a possibility you'd end up on the street.

Moving to Mexico or Canada requires a very difficult visa process to stay long-term and work that is very challenging even under the best of circumstances (like a lot of money).

It would help if you could give a hint of your budget to live on. Cost of living and rent are high in Hawaii, but some areas are less expensive than other areas.

If you move to Florida, I guarantee you won't be anywhere near being the only Latin family located there. The same for Southern California, although Southern California is not cheap. It's cheaper than Hawaii, though.

There are billions of small safe towns across America that no one ever goes. Seems better than a small group of islands that everyone on the face of the earth would love to visit. Someone that you know from somewhere will easily vacation in Hawaii someday. Few if any are going to stroll through Lincoln, Nebraska, for example. Or somewhere less known even.

Why do you think Hawaii is the safest place?

She said income was an issue for him, so I assume she wants to move someplace he can't afford to go.

Oh you're right. I missed that post.

Latinos don't really stand out here. A lot of people are mixed race.

If you can get a decent job, sure, why not move to Hawaii?

Been following this thread, watching.
Honestly, I think it is far easier to "disappear" in a big city than in a small town. If you are hell-bent on heading to Hawaii, set your sights on Honolulu. If the kimchee hits the fan you have a much better chance of police protection here then in some Godforsaken place on the BI or Kauai.
The "blending" issue doesn't mean crap if your assailant is determined to find you. Potential for protection is the ultimate issue.

I live on the Big island .............. i think if you can survive, its not a bad idea coming here because most chance the person your dealing with wouldn't be able to handle. As you see some people are just ridiculous on this forum (seriously hawaii mainly negative feeling where da aloha spirit shame dat kine). Yea but one thing i know about hawaii you wanna hide you can hide here ( thats why get so much damn people with warrants out there) volcano village is totally hidable. One thing watch out for kona i have seen with my own eyes the fights in the school when it come to latins and locals/ I don't agree with this behaivor sadly though most people here support it. Kona does have a small latin community though.
hope that helped
P.S to HAWAII: What is hawaii when all we do is spread negative aloha spirit? i know this was not what we were taught. shame on us
