That's a lovely video. But it makes me wonder:

All up and down the Pacific Northwest coast, it is against the law to be within a certain amount of distance of the whales. I know that in Hawaii, you must stay so many feet away from the sea turtles.

So, is there no law that says you must stay back from the whales?

I could be wrong, but it looked to me that the whales came to them. With the whales getting so extremely close, not sure it would be a good idea to crank up the motor. I do remember hearing someone on the video say to another person that seemed to be getting scared, that they have to keep the boat still, until the whales swim away.

No one is supposed to get within 100 yards of a whale in Hawaiian waters.... Like that's ever going to happen or be strictly enforced. With some of the crap I've seen go on out there over the years, it's surprising they haven't had more 'whale watching' related accidents. Some poor kid was killed in a whale watching tour boat accident off Oahu a few years back. Didn't have to happen.

Aloha, think Maui is loosing it's allure, finally

Humpbacks are smart...but they can't read English...so they go where they choose, even though they're not supposed to approach boats.
