I'll share my two cents....
We sold ALL of our furniture prior to our move to save in shipping costs, as we paid for the move ourselves. Looking back, it was a HUGE mistake! Only because we spent the entire year on the island sitting on plastic outdoor patio furniture in our living room, eating on a plastic end table, and sleeping on air mattresses. The cost of furniture on Oahu was extremely high back then.

We shipped our vehicle from Long Beach via Matson, which was SUPER, and took about 6 wks to arrive. We shipped our household items from Texas to Honolulu via FedEx & USPS. Yes, it was SEVERAL boxes (about 150 in all) but we were able to have tracking numbers for each and every box.

However, when we returned back to the mainland (Arizona), we utilized Matson again for our vehicle, and put our household items on a couple of pallets and had it shipped via Yellow Freight. We chose to box everything ourselves to save money, but they picked the pallets up, shrink wrapped them, and loaded them onto their truck. 8 days later, we received a call advising our pallets were here in town and ready to be picked up. We chose p/u rather than delivery, again, to save money. Although we didnt have any furniture, it ran us about $3500 at the time.

We're once again, thinking about moving back to the islands, and maybe even utilizing Matson to do the "whole package" this round. Also, the info ya'll are providing is very helpful! Good luck to everyone!

Pretzel Logic - did you ever get delivery of your shipment? We are now it the run around. Any suggestions you can give me would be very helpful. Supposedly the ship arrived almost 4 weeks ago and it is being held up for an agricultural inspection. We can't get any information out of anyone and they never return phone calls. We are trying to find their address on Oahu. The one listed on Ft Weaver Rd is a home not a business. We found the warehouse in Barber's Point but the gates were padlocked and no one appeared to be there.
