My family has a condo in down town Waikiki. When I go out therewith my friends I get wasted drunk all day and night. Never have I even been STOPPed by the police. Hawaii's economy is based off tourism so busting all the drunk reatrds on vacation wouldnt be helpling their cause. The dumb ass LOST actors get wasted and then DRIVE like morons putting their lives and others at risk. Cheers to HPD for getting them off the road

There's a long running joke in Hawaii: "you have to make an appointment to get arrested".

As a cop myself I have to laugh at this subject whenever I see it. Policing is a complicated business. The writer who commented about the irresponsible spoiled immature celebrities getting arrested must realize that Hawaii and places like it are celebrity meccas; just the fact that more celebrities misbehaving and acting stupid frequent and congregate in these places, explains why more of them get busted in places like this.

The writer who comments about being drunk all the time in Wakiki isn't far from the truth. Tourism can influence enforcement agendas one way or the other. If for example you come to Fort Lauderdale, Florida which encourages tourism, drunk and disorderly will definitely attract police and one will end up in a free ticket to the county jail. Once about 20 years ago, Ft Laud had a hands off policy and events like Springbreak ruled. When it eventually grew so raucous that the drunks ruled the streets and started molesting women in public, and kids were jumping off balconies killing themselves because there was no police enforcement of underage drinking, the community stepped in and directed the police to bust everybody for even the most minor violation. It was extreme, and everybody was getting busted for violations as small as even throwing a cigarette butt on the street! This went on for several years and now Ft Laud is clean and mostly family-oriented. When things are allowed to go too far, and the cops are handicapped by being told to lay off because of tourism, Wakiki may one day see the same reaction, but first it would have to really get very bad before the simple drunks have to worry - thank goodness, because I still like a drink once and a while!
