Default Kahului,Wailuki or Kula - Need some advise

Hi All:

My husband and I will be relocating to Maui sometime in 2008and we have it down to a few areas. - Kahuli, Wailuki (includes Kahakuloa) or Kula/up country. What are your experiences with these areas? We are looking to purchase a home with a decent water view and we want to be in the “less traveled” tourist area but still close to stores, restaurants, etc.

Thanks for all your input.

I don't know if you've ever driven out to Kahakuloa, but it's close to absolutely nothing, and the road is one lane. Out past Wailuku, towards Waihee, there are some very nice homes, and you're still close to town. Homes on the golf course in Kahului are nice, but that area is very hot and the wind just blasts through there on occasion. Kula, especially upper Kula, is cool, great views of the valley, west Maui mountains, and the ocean, about a 40 minute drive into town. If you live way up there, above 3500 feet, expect to get a fireplace, and use it in the winter. Funny you didn't mention Kihei or the west side, wouldn't rule those out.
PS, I've never been to Wailuki............jk

Aloha and okolemaluna

I know what you mean about Kahakuloa and we really do want to be closer to "things". Kihei and Wailea are still possibilities and they were the first places we were thinking about but the overly touristy nature of those locations kind of turned us off, as we wanted a more "stable" intransient local population. Hawi on The big island hasn't been ruled out either.

If anyone has any other suggestions we would really appreciate the feedback.

Thanks
