Thumbs up Waimanalo info

Hey everyone.

I am moving to Oahu this summer for an extended period (5 years-forever), and was just curious if anyone could give me some info on a cool town to live in. I have visited Oahu, and I really love the north shore, but need to be closer to Honolulu because my boyfriend will be going to school at UHM.

Someone told me that I might like Waimanalo, Kailua, or Kaneohe. I'm not looking for a nice, suburban neighborhood with good schools, or an urban metropolis like Honolulu, but a small-ish, cool town. Any info on these or other towns on the island would be awesome, since we are moving over there with little in the way of local knowledge. Thanks for your help!

I'd pick Kailua- away from the city but has a life of its own. And great beaches

how about Waimanalo for vacation rentals? We are going to Oahu in a few months and were thinking about a house there...
