Well it's Sunday at 7:40 p.m. and the storms are back, not as intense as last night's but still pretty heavy. I wonder if we're going to have round 3 tomorrow?

You know I've heard rumors about places on the mainland where it actually snows!!! And, you have to get this special machine that will "blow" the stuff away from your house, so you can get to your car and scrape the snow and ice off of it?? Can you believe that? Don't know, those mainlanders do like to get a little olepe waha nui sometimes. Pretty calm in Kihei right now, think the storm front has drifted south west of us. But the south swell is definitely up, may have to break out the waveski in the morning..

Aloha and okolemaluna

My husband was so angry because our old snow blower died last year and it costs so much to repair that we had to buy a new one about two months ago. It would be great to have just one mild winter and than we can just sell the darn thing! And yes it's always fun to have to scrape that ice off the car and wait for it to get warm and than the thrilling "slip and slide" dirve home after a full day's work. Thankfully I now have a short commute home but my poor husband has to drive to/from the Bronx everyday! Being in the surburbs we get more snow than the city, that's always an added joy. Can't wait to throw out "everything" winter

I *SO* hear you! I've been in denial up until this weekend, focusing on moving next summer and just not thinking about what comes between now and then. But the ice on the windshield has begun, and they say snow is coming soon... It's been in the lower 30s at night up here in Ithaca, and it's getting colder. And my sister, who used to plow my driveway, is now waiting for the sun to come out on Kauai so she can get back to surfing. Grrrrr..... I guess I'll have to find someone else to plow, and I'd better do it soon!

Can't WAIT until I'm whining about rain...

well, we survived another day of deluge. however, kailua beach was a swimming pool. several homes got flooded. power and cable were out for many folks. boulders came crashing down on two homes. apparently, justin, the weather guy, said that there is another round coming from the south. and, the big island got some snow--1-3". trying to dry out a little this morning. blue skies and loads of laundry to do.

My sympathy! I don't miss that part of winter...the ice, clearing windshields and cars that won't start....

After living here for a while, I've learned to really appreciate these rains. I might feel a moment of irritation when I have to carry groceries or paperwork through a parking lot, but I've come to value the rains as part of what makes our survival possible. It may seem odd, but the long stretches of rain actually make me feel secure.

And in addition, the grey, cool weather helps me get into the holiday spirit even more, since if feels a little like the weather on the East coast at this time of year.

Rain, Winds Cause Headaches on Isle

Tuesday, November 6, 2007 9:12 AM HST

Hawaii's first Kona low of the season dumped 2.4 inches of rain on Pahala, knocked out power to 8,500 customers around the island, closed roads and left 3,000 to 3,500 customers in the south part of the isle with only isolated phone service Sunday night.

But the worst appears to be behind us, forecasters said Monday.

No way....

It is pouring again to day!

Did you see the news last night? I actually showed a house yesterday in that weather. It was two story 1950s kamaaina home with an interior stairway. Top floor was ok, but when we went downstairs....4 inches of water, a gushing hole in the back corner of the unfinished basement's hollow tile foundation, and water bubbling up through the cement floor!

I had been wanting to see this house for a while, so I waded through the basement anyway--there was water standing 6-8 inches in one corner, some dry spots in the center....

There is going to be a good bit of damage from this storm, I suspect....Another reason to consider flood insurance, even if you are not in a known flood zone!!!!

Hope you stay a bit drier in Kailua!
