Since I was one of the 200 or so mobile (manufactured) home owners on Hawaii, if anyone has questions, I'll answer.
Let me say this now, if saving money is the goal, forget it! Until there is an actual mobile home manufacture on Hawaii, there is no cost savings. Because mobile home are rare, you are paying for everything directly and anything special is all out of your pocket.
There are only four pros to buying a mobile home to ship to Hawaii
Time: From start to finish under 4 months.
Options: You have every imaginable option because they are built on the mainland.
Engineering: They are built to the highest ratings from hud, exceeding Hawaii building codes and the added structure for shipping makes them tough.
Local Cosntruction and Permits: All the county deals with is foundation, and utilities (and any other site built feature). The building is not inspected or examined by the county.
That's the three. There are many cons. If anyone is serious about buying one, I'll tell you wht I learned the hard way.
