I hate my life! = ) The boring, the mundane, nagging wife trying to whittle me to a toothpick, job I hate in a field I'm not competent in. I have a job offer from Kaua'i, great paying, in the field I studied in graduate school. My wife is very backwoods, dare I say hillbilly..I would definitely fit in on the island, I'm out of my element in the midwest. I love to swim, surf, hike, camp, fish, etc., We just want different things out of life...She doesn't want to move to Hawaii, or even try it! But we have kids. I keep telling myself half of America is divorced and we'll probably end up there in ten years when the kids aren't holding us together so what's it matter? Most people don't even get to vacation in hawaii, let alone live in paradise. I know she's crazy, but am I?

Yes, you're crazy. The kids are important people, you should definitely take them into serious consideration. No matter how you feel about your wife, your kids don't deserve that.

Dilemma
Your dilemma is nothing new. Your real question is: Should you look after your personal happiness first or should look after your kids? The answer is a very personal one. Having a Hillbilly wife is not a deal breaker...having a cheating one...is! Can you tolerate your existence until your kids go to high school at least? Don't copout just because half of the population is doing it...your merely trying to justify your conclusion. Just because you want to surf, hike, play...who the hell doesn't. But to do it at the expense of your kids...not very manly. Standup and be accounted for...do the right thing first...then the fun thing later. Those are my thoughts...
