Default Advice for a potential college student

Hey everyone, I'm a potential graduate student to U of HI at Manoa, and was inquiring about costs for living. I'm married, but all my wife and I care about is a shack with running water that gets the job done. Where do you guys suggest to search for housing (most student oriented classifieds through the University website need a University login) and what can I expect for costs. I was anticipating that I'd spend about $1000 a month on what I need as I'm not looking for the best.

$1000 will get a studio. A one-bedroom, if you get lucky.

I would check Craigslist and the Honolulu Advertiser (HNA). If you look at the HNA "houses for rent" you can find "apartments" within single-family homes for rent. Although not all come with a full kitchen (you would get a sink, frig and hotplate/microwave).

Areas near UH that would be in your price range:
Manoa
University
Makiki
McCully/Moilili
Kaimuki/Kapahulu
St Louis Hts

Thanks for the quick response. I'll check into them. It would be interesting to live in St. Louis heights as I'm moving from St. Louis Missouri. I could claim I never left home.
