Chinatown in Honolulu is just like any other Chinatown, but definitely smaller.

Portland Chinatown is listed as being about 440 acres in size, Honolulu Chinatown as 36.

Ok thanks for pointing that out, Open D but our chinatown is really two districts oldtown and chinatown. Really ours is only really 2 to 4 small blocks of chinese food places and a few curo shops. But in any site they would include them together. But i can always be wrong Sorry Open what i should of said too was its smaller in the festivities of chinese new year too.

I would have never guessed that! I have been to the Chinatown down in Portland and it seems MUCH smaller than the one in Honolulu. Although, I don't go to Portland very often and try to stay up here on the mountain as much as I can.

Most of the sites describe it as "All within a fifteen-block area"

Although, not all of it is safe. I have a condo I lived at and now rent out downtown that is walking distance to Chinatown - realistically, it is a 3 block by 3 block area that is safe - with the rest somewhat rough around the edges come sundown. Portland's Chinatown wasn't exactly a feel good area either come sunset.

Welcome to Honolulu's Chinatown!

Cant argue with that viper, i live on the border of oldtown/chnatown and the pearl district myself. Its easy to confuse chinatown with oldtown they are differnt parts of the district.
