Portland Chinatown IS small but like all Chinatowns I've been to (Washington DC, Vancover BC, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego) it has a common thread...
1. Next to what was once the railroad tracks
2. Lots of adult-theme theaters
3. Streets are pretty darn dirty
Portland Chinatown did clean its act up about a decade ago with some new housing and trendy stores.
I can honestly say the Portland Chinatown manapua/char-siu bow is superior to anything I found on Kauai -
AND yes - that includes Hamura's! (see my C-D entry about Manapua on Kauai)
Kapaa used to have a Chinatown which is now the block with the Olympic Cafe and Bank of Hawaii.
