How much does the sun shine on the east side of the BI
I have asked how much does it rain, but what I really want to know is how much does the sun shine around Hilo and the Puna district? Thanks so much!

Sharlee,
It shines about 10 minutes a day, so you have to look really quick, sort of like an eclipse !! I am joking of course ....
The weather usually equals itself out. You may have an extended period of rainy gloom, but then a stretch of nice weather. You could have a rainy tradewind pattern or a drier tradewind pattern - depending on the location of high pressure / low pressure.
For the most part, you receive more of your rain at night and up until 10 or 11 am. But to contradict myself, that isn't always the case !! Expect anything at anytime.
Dont expect cloudless sunny skies, though it does happen , its rather rare.
Hilo actually has better weather than Puna a majority of the time.

If it were always raining here, I'd go a little crazy. But it is a pretty good balance. You will have the extended periods of rain at times, but usually it is spaced out with plenty sun. Often, even during rainy periods, the afternoons will be sunny.

So Kolohe, you saying it rains out there all the time??? I know from working in Hilo and Keaau, it rains, gets sunny, rains, gets sunny. I really enjoyed it, may move down to OVE and start my house soon.

Thanks Hank. I have the rain info and now am looking for the sun info. Also, it helps hearing from the ppl that actually live there and experience it versus technical data. Do you live there? If so, tell me about the weather

My two cents. It's Hawaii. It could pee rain 16 hours a day and it would still be great.
