Question Looking for the most quiet, yet affordable place to live on Oahu

I am currently living in Aiea, Oahu...work @ the airport. The constant sound of the traffic has taken its toll on my nerves, considering I deal with the airline noise every day @ work too.

I am new to the island, only been here a little over a month, haven't had much time to get out & search for a place, due to work, & was hoping for some advice to help with my search.

My family will be joining me soon. A husband, four children, & a cat. We aren't into bling, just layed-back normal folk who like to chill at the end of the day, but still would like a place to rent in an area that's safe.

I am a country girl from the south on the mainland, & I know this is going to sound stupid, but the traffic & the constant noise is driving me absolutely crazy!! I worked in Memphis, but drove home to my quiet home in the country.

I desperately need to find an affordable place to live that is a peaceful & quiet place "out of the city". Is there a place on Oahu like that, or am I just dreaming?

Keeping in mind that we are like everyone else, on a tight budget, all suggestions & advice would be greatly appreciated.

There is, but the trade-off is going to be a terrible commute.
Do you care about the commute?

What price range are you looking at? How many bedrooms do you need?

Personally my #1 priority would be to live in good school district for the kids.

Ewa is a popular area, due to the lower rental prices, but I believe most airlines in-coming flight pattern is over Ewa to get the airport.... so I'd suggest staying away from Ewa in your search. Ewa is also one of the worst areas for traffic, if that is a concern.

I think your best bet is Kaneohe or Kailua. The commute to the airport is just about 30 minutes, even at rush hour. It's over the pali, on the windward side. If you rent somewhere away from the commute highways, it's quiet, and it's "country".

my SO works at the airport, too. no problems commuting from kailua. h3 is great. just a little back tracking. still only takes about 30 minutes and the view is incredible. if you live on this side, there's 4 ways in and out (pali, likelike, h3 and waimanalo). if you move to ewa, 2 ways. farrington highway and the freeway. caution! caution! caution! the traffic at peak hours is terrible. thousands of more houses are planned for the westside or leeward areas.
