Do you mean Punalu'u, black sands beach, on the Big Island? I'm not familiar with a Punalu'u on Oahu, so I went to MapQuest and found this Map of Punaluu, HI by MapQuest=
That URL will take you to a map of the south end of Hawai'i, where Punalu'u is highlighted. There has been a significant political struggle over the sale of land to a large developer in this area.

There is a Punaluu on Oahu. We have driven through, but nothing more.
Perhaps an Oahu local can chime- in ...... Kani - lehua ?????

sorry, i don't really have any info right now. i don't usually go to that side of the island.  ms. hell might know something of interest?

Punaluu is a pretty small place. Thirty years ago, "Pat's at Punaluu" was an "old time Hawaii" type of place with palm fronds and tikis. Sometime between then and now a several story building (condos, I think) went up which spoiled that for me, but I'm sure it helps those who stay there, or own there.
I drive through there about once a year on the way up the windward side, but that's all I really know.
