I have white, basic builder's stuff...in her last house my daughter had black and got the same Formica countertop
(butterum granite) that I have....the black looked great with it, I think when I need new appliances I will get the
black.

I'm still a fan of stainless steel. I wipe them down with furniture polish and have never had any problems with rust.

By definition - Stainless Steel only under the most extreme circumstances or a very low grade, does not rust.

I think that Corten steel could be a choice... it rusts to a deep chocolate brown and then forms a protective film and stops.

Well I'm STILL going to polish them because it looks nice and seems to help with kiddie hand prints.

(I'm actually worse than the kids when I'm cooking, which is always.)
