Apparently not EVERYONE.

The EPA has a much more nuanced approach, as seen in this chart showing safe exposure levels based on weight and type of tuna. For example, they say an average adult can safely eat a couple cans of chunk light tuna a week without concern.

I mean, get some reality folks. 20 minutes of exposure to the latest crack that has opened is fatal. Not dangerous, fatal.
OK, OK, I promise I won't go anywhere near that crack! Not even for a minute! Cross my heart! And I'm pretty sure the inverse square law is still in effect here in Hawai'i, at least until the 2016 elections.

I personally know someone, a highly educated Japanese professional, who has already moved themselves and their family from Japan to Canada because they are convinced that things are out of control there, that the Japanese government is lying to it's citizens about the reality of the situation, and they refuse to put their children's lives at risk.
Wow, the radiation must have gotten to his brain, since so many of the scary-scary people are saying the radiation from Fukashima is largely going to wind up in Canada.

Notice how the US media has also been told to shut up and roll over?
How would we notice that? And more realistically, why would the American media do that? Have you noticed they have not shut up and rolled over at all on the matter of the NSA leaks, which the government has a FAR bigger interest in suppressing?

keep the proles distracted w/ Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus while Rome burns.
Not me, boy. I keep distracted w/scary-scary stories promulgated on the internet by anonymous people who like to rant in long, solid blocks of text without providing any evidence whatsoever to support any of their... urrrmmm... unusual views.

There is an almost total US news blackout as well.
This is an odd claim to make with a straight face, very Alex Jonesy, especially since actual, real news blackouts are fiendishly hard to accomplish except in totalitarian countries like North Korea. On average I see several items about Fukushima in my news feed almost every day. Here's a Reuters story from yesterday... notice that it would not interest the average American, which is why it was not the headline lead on any the network news.

Besides, Miley has a new Christmas video where she twerks Santa.

But the truth is out there, you just have to search for it.
God, I LOVED that show. But did you ever notice, they never did a straight-on profile of Gillian Anderson? It wasn't until the series ended and she started doing Shakespeare that you could really get a good hard look at that nose. So even THEY were hiding the truth! Rotten commies!

They KNOW that the California coastline will be hit w/ radiation (they estimate within two years, I think much sooner than that), how could Hawaii not be? Yes, the currents are different, but it's gonna happen.
Well, the currents are different, for one thing.

Look, we've got first rate scientists here who are staying on top of this issue, and they're not seeing any reason to panic, so why should we?

Try wait! Try wait! I heard that the radiation was supposed to kill all the cooties so the Spam would last LONGER. And of course, if it glows in the dark it would make it easier to find in the dark during disasters.

Gee, I guess you can't believe everything you read on the Interwebz. Who knew?

The FDA is trying to pass a new regulation to make all cans of spam, as well as the spam itself should a can already be opened, to glow in the dark.

No worries as this will in no way decrease the flavor of the spam.

Folks, its all good. Get back to your local attractions as normal.

Issue resolved.

Default True facts about Ocean Radiation and the Fukushima Disaster

I found some much needed factual information on this issue on the Deep Sea News website. It pretty much debunks all the scary-scary stuff posted here, there, and thither by people who make it a business to scare people.

Author Kim Martini, PhD, is a Physical Oceanographer at the Joint Institute for the Study of Atmosphere and Ocean at the University of Washington.

She attacks such topics as "The Three Maps of Terror"... I especially appreciated that she discovered that "MAP OF TERROR #1: The Rays of Radioactive Death!," which I've seen in several publications isn't even a map of radiation at all. It's actually a completely mislabelled map of tsunami wave heights. In other words, the map as presented is a complete fraud, being propagated as part of a bogus alarm.

Other fun topics include: What's a Bequerel? What's a Sievert?; Simpson's Guide to Radiation; and finally the Really Big Two: Will the radiation reaching the West Coast be Dangerous? and Can I eat fish from the Pacific? <spoiler alert: no, and yes>

From RSOE EDIS - Emergency and Disaster Information Service this past week:

"Highly radioactive water was detected inside the No. 3 reactor building at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear plant, Tepco said. It is believed that the water may have leaked from within the reactor. The water was found to have high levels of radioactive cesium and cobalt, but Tepco claimed none of the water has leaked out of the building itself. A report in December suggested it would take five years to put an end to radioactive water leaks in and around the plant."

Until someone figures out how to repair the damage done, it is really pointless for us simple folk to worry over something we cannot control.

Get a list of media companies owned by GE (designers of Fukushima power plant) and other companies vested in Nuclear energy, and get a list of media companies owned by US government and you will have your answer.
