Many, many homes here are housing more than the typical "single-family". Shared housing is very common. Extended family or renting rooms....

(This is a very extreme example, but there was recently a home on Oahu that made news when a fire was started by a child playing with a lighter...there were at least 31 people living in the home. Extended, blended family....starbulletin.com | News | /2007/11/09/)

It depends on your definition of poverty and the motivation for your question. If you're making a statement about the ridiculous cost of homes, join the club. I have to wonder how a young family or single person can afford the 300, 400, or 500 thousand dollar "starter" homes in our neighborhood. Like cynmkolohe said, local folks have to live in a group or inherit.
