It's a good idea. But they will have to make up the revenue shortfall somewhere else. The question is who will get stuck with the extra tax burden: the middle class, the wealty, businesses or tourists? And what effect will that have on the Hawaiian economy.
I've mentioned this here before, it's a common sense move that would give residents direct relief.
It looks like it was submitted by the Grassroots Institute, which means if it was not put out by the Gov, Director's or House/Senate it will probably be shot down.
As it mentioned 32 other states already do this, it's been discussed before and shot down.
Still crossing fingers though.

I think it is silly to cut taxes on anything while schoolteachers make mid-40's which makes for an utter fail for the school system here. I'd rather divert extra funds to getting schoolteachers to competitive pay. You get what you pay for.

Based upon some computations (why the variance, because no one can come up with the same answer), there is more money allocated per student than comparable schools that score high. You can keep diverting money and the DOE will eat it at the administrative level (which is HUGE).
It's bureaucracy, not funds, that is the problem.

I agree isn't it sad that even our childrens best interest is just big business now.

Big government, not big business (which is what I think you were trying to convey).

Does it matter? Its an opinion based on perceptions made from my own experience with the school system and bureaucracy, which is my truth and reality. But you also have a right to your own different reality then what i have. Its great to have grown up with diversity in Hawai'i and to be native viper. That is ok with you viper yes?
