Default bringing pets into hawaii

me and my husband will be moving to oahu in feb and have a cat she is updated on all tests and shots but we read somewhere about quarentine. does anyone have any information on this and will she be able to go with us in feb? we would like to fly her on the plane with us but i'm not sure what the rules in hawaii are about bringing pets.

if you google "animal quarentine in Hawaii" it will give you all the steps necessary for bringing a pet into HI...there is a 120 day waiting period after the rabies shot, i believe, if you want to take them home with you from the airport.

good luck I have to tell you that cats here have it rough if they live outside ! the alley cats here are soo mean ! and the tropical weather can be torture to cats! there are so many cats on these islands I know it;s hard to let go of a animal but somtimes it's for the better! plus try to get housing with a animal forget it! but if you can manage it just make sure your cat isn;t too old and the move won't stress the animal to much !@ my opinion hope that helps !

well our cat is 4 yrs old and has had all shots she is an inside cat and rarely goes outside. she is like a child to us since we are having trouble concieving so we could never leave her behind. we just wanted to make sure we do all the steps neccessary to get her there the same time as us.

Pets can qualify for the 5 day or less quarantine if

1. Animal has had 2 rabies shots, of which the latest one was at least 90 days prior to arrival AND the two shots must be have been given to pet MORE than 90 days apart. They must also be current (they have 1 and 3 year rabies vaccines)
2. Animal must be microchipped
3. An OIE-FAVN RABIES BLOOD TEST must be performed (has to be after microchip was inserted AND must be done 120 days prior to arrival in Hawaii). The test must be sent to a lab certified to handle the cases by state (they're generally sent to Kansas State University).
4. All paper work for all the tests, microchip, and rabies vaccinations must be on hand and be signed by the veterinarian.

Or you could just skip all of it, come when you come. However the animal will be subjected to full quarantine

I brought my cat and dog to Australia. We did the microchips and the rabies titer -- the blood has to go to the lab in Kansas.

thanks i am trying to get her in for the chip and blood test but it seems it won't be in the 120 day period so i'm not sure what we will do. we didn't get the notice from the army til about 2 weeks ago so i am hesitant to go to hawaii and have her stay in qauantine until the 120 days are up. maybe i can ask someonw to watch her for us as i said above we are very protective of her

Yea having a friend watch her would probably be best, then have her sent over after the waiting period/checklist is complete. Either way good luck

just got an email from Fly to Hawaii - Discount Hawaiian Airline - Mesa Airfare Discount Flights IFlyGo that's Aloha Air from the mainland. They said cats must fit in carrier that fits uunder seat in front to fly in cabin. nothing about weight or number per FLIGHT. So for us, my husband will take one and me the other. I'd suggest getting the soft carriers and kinda mashing them. cats like to feel snug and it won't hurt for a few hours. better they should see and smell you than be put in a hold.

If your flying from someplace not the West coast, Southwest Air told me similar so probably most majors will do the same but check.

Are apartments in Honolulu really hostile to cats? That will be a deal breaker. Don't know anyone who will take them and a shelter is not an option. Apartments on the mainland are getting better but you pay a hefty price.
