Default Coqui frogs in fern forest sub

Hello
Does anyone have any idea how bad the coqui frog infestation is in the Fern Forest Sub Division?, specifically in the area around the the middle of Jungle King road.
Thanks
Tom

Default Coqui Frogs in Fern Forest subdivison

Aloha...
I live up-front on lower Omega. We have NO Coqui infestation at all, at this time (although you sometimes can hear them off in the far distance down- hill). It's quiet as a church here, except light crickets on hot nights. The person to ask about all things Fern Forest, is Kim Tavares-our "Hui Staffer." (kimtavares@yahoo.com) She's the coordinator for conservation measures, and as they figure out the best way to get-'em (one of the new "alternative" methods is Baking Soda...or hot water). We're lucky...they are in Volcano Village, and down slope...but not many folks plant "commercial nursery" plants (this is Native Forest)...and i think this limits the influx somewhat.

Hi OHWD,

Do you notice any difference when the night-time temps increase/decrease? I live in a coqui area (near intersection of Haihai and Kilauea in Hilo...near the bridge...) and when the temps were really cool this week, we had two nights of no coqui sounds at all. We are pretty used to it now and it took me a while to realize that we weren't hearing it. They were back at it last night, though!

With aloha,

Cynthia

It's been real cold and quiet up here in Leilani, and it's wierd, but I've gotten so used to the frog noise I've had trouble getting to sleep! Nice to hear the crickets again, they were always drowned out by the coqui.
