There's no Krispy Kreme anywhere on the island, although I think there may be one on Maui? Someone occasionally flies them in from somewhere. I suppose they're better when they are fresh but flown in from somewhere else are the only ones we can get around here.
I think, though, my favorite place to eat them would be Punahou Carnival. Been awhile since I've had any there.

With Portuguese Bean Soup from Punahou Carnival oh so ono.
AFP, are you making a list you you'll be able to go to all the different malasada sites and do a comparison chart? Wouldn't that be some sort of scientific research and couldn't you get a government grant to do it, do you think? Maybe the Hawaii Visitor's Bureau would fund it for you?
You could add in other dishes, too! Portuguese Bean Soup should be on the comparison list. Manapua, too!

I'm trying to get a betting understanding of the culture and I find there is a ton of information in the food the people eat in a given area it's fascinating seeing what the original malasada's has evolved into so many variations.
Thanks for the suggestion, when I go I plan on trying one or two bakeries I won't be doing any formal information gathering that doesn't appeal to me, but perhaps if someone did it might make an interesting write up in the newspaper.
I think when i was there costco in waipio sold KrispyKremes?
