You also have to keep in mind that the folks in Hawaii are sick of the "revolving door" thing they see on a regular basis: mainlanders come for vacation, fall in love, move over, and decide within a few years that they can't take it and move back to the mainland. Locals in Hawaii have gotten wary of making friends with transplanted mainlanders, in part, for this reason, understandably so.
