Great link!

I have observed that many people who start building during the rainy season are caught off guard by the delays that can result. It is something to consider carefully when planning. December was an unusually rainy month, but our rainy season can often be an unexpected period for those new to the island.

am glad that they chose a "natural clearing" area for the homesite. it appears that they have tried to preserve as much of the native forest as possible. we can only hope.

to keep your house dry without clearcutting, it is is recommended to do, "light clearing on the house's south side and selective thinning of other sides. skylights, south-facing windows, and building well off the ground or on proper concrete slabs also help keep interiors dry." the volcano community association (vca) also provides resources for, "building in the forest." for more information go to their website at www.volcanocommunity.org or their email is: volcanocommunityassociation@yahoo.com
