why not use your search engine and just type in "hawaii superferry" or go to their official site Hawaii Superferry A Whole New Way To Get Around The Islands? travel to/from o'ahu to/from kaua'i has not started yet and the second daily voyage to maui has been postponed.

I still don't understand the point of view of it bringing more crime. I mean, a ticket is something like 2-5 times more expensive than an airline ticket. If I was going to commit a crime on a neighbor island I would just fly. In fact, doubt I'd ever take the ferry because of the cost.

smuggling, growing and manufacturing of drugs is already happening on all islands. brav989 is correct that it costs more to use the ferry than fly. i'm pretty sure the voyage to kaua'i is going to happen, just don't know when.

the argument about crime stems from the fact that the superferry suposedly does not have a very effective system of checking items for security purposes. for example, your car can be full of items, which can easily offer a crazy drug lord to smuggle drugs in to kauai!
this is what people have told me. the superferry has postponed its trips here until 09.

From what I read, when the legislature convened, one of the items in it state that all vehicles are to be inspected inside and out prior to each voyage.

i live on kauai and i am against the ferry as well. so far the people are making it clear we dont want the ferry on kauai...the ferry has not released a date for when it will return to kauai. so far it is doing two maui trips daily. and is not yet on kauai. the people are making it clear we will protest. (so will i!)...but they are treating the people that protestesed like terrorists...they are making laws saying no one is allowed to swim in the harbor while the ferry is comming in(arrested with a $10,000-$45,000 fine)...putting fences up...they plan to bring in coast guards from the mainland to stop with the protesters. and they are going as far to close down all the roads around the harbor...and all the businesses will have to close during the superferrys trips.....this is a HUGE impact on out island!

for further info, one should visit the superferry's official website. it has links to the concerns of some of the other posters.
it does NOT sail to maui 2x per day. protesting can be a good thing as long as criminal acts aren't committed or others' rights aren't violated.

Well, if people didn't protest then none of those measures would take place, and everything would go nice and smooth.

freedom of speech and the right to protest are alive and well here in the islands. the problem regarding the protests/demonstrations with the superferry was that many of the riders were subjected to their cars being trashed, being attacked, etc. etc. by the demonstrators. one can express themselves as long as one doesn't commit a crime and infringe on the rights of others.
