Wow - that's alot! Several things I'd factor in (work location and kids education - being tops).
Personally, of what is listed, my top choices:
Honolulu (that really covers alot!)
Halawa
Pearl City

Tough to choose...if I were to make a move from Hilo to Oahu, I would probably want to be in fairly close proximity to Diamond Head--it suited me well when I lived there several years ago. I'd probably take a close look at the newer areas in Kapolei as well--that has changed a lot since I lived there. I also like where Kani-Lehua lives...Kailua.
As for the Big Island, if we were to leave Hilo, it would be either to move to a larger home/parcel of land in the Puna district, or to move to be closer to the sandy beaches of the Kohala coast, possibly sacrificing land area/lot size for easy access to sunsets and white sand beaches. We toss around those possibilities pretty regularly...but it's tough to give up the convenience of being in Hilo.

i'm with you about the big island cyn. trying to get there next month to take my kupuna wahine there to bless our lot up at mauna loa estates. trying to work out the details with our caregiver and flight times. don't know if we can manage it?!
speaking of kailua, o'ahu: don't know if the new restaurant formaggio (spelling) was open the last time you visited? the owners helped to open hy's in hawai'i kai. haven't been, but heard only good things about it. sort of like a step above california pizza kitchen. supposedly they are going to do steaks, too.
