It is just another one of the free activities we all enjoy out here in Hawaii.

Need more family members to pay the rent when they get old enough to work?

Which birth rate is this? Of Hawaiians or of people in Hawaii? Two totally different things.

If the Hawaiian birth rate is really high, that is a good thing. They are a small minority, but if they have enough children they have a chance of gaining some political and socioeconomic power

I found the article at Yahoo. It was about the birth rate among women in Hawaii, not women of Hawaiian blood.

It isn't like the birthrate in Hawaii is #1 or even in the top 5.

The baby makers are out in force in Guam, American Samoa, and of course Utah.

The Native Hawaiians are definitely leading the pack in the baby making department - although, it is interesting in the data to note it appears a lot of Native Hawaiian females are not hooking up with Native Hawaiian males but are baby making outside their ethnicity consistently year after year.....

That's been pretty much the case since the 19th Century. Apparently, many Native Hawaiians chose to follow the lead of some of the aliʻi and hook up with non-Hawaiians.

Historically, that was typical on a lot of the islands in Oceania. Babies made with folks-not-from-the-island were more vigorous than the ones sharing the island gene pool. Basic genetics which most folks don't seem to pay any attention to when deciding to have a baby.
