I doubt everyone who is not up to code, and it's not like we have any notable cases of food poisoning.

Viper, that was a very random post.
Every state has regulations for minimum temperatures to prevent bacteria growth.

The Hawaii regulations are here http://health.hawaii.gov/san/files/2...compressed.pdf

The handy reference guide is here http://health.hawaii.gov/san/files/2...rd-english.pdf

I have eaten the warmed over bentos, teri-chicken, and spam musubis from Foodland and haven't gotten sick. Also the corn dogs, fried chicken, etc from their hot deli counter. Pro-tip: they package it up and sell it cheap after 10-10:30pm, at least at the Kapaa Foodland that closes at 11pm. How's that for living dangerously?

Too much sake for whtviper1, it seems.

Can't stand the stuff - the point that seems to be lost, is spam was brought up - some of the unhealthiest processed food on the planet - and it's refreshing when you are in Japan they avoid that kind of stuff - hence when you go out for sushi you actually get fresh food.

His comment was odd anyway.

I agree. Apparently, he's never eaten Japanese food that's fermented, such as nattō (fermented soybeans) or narezushi (fermented sushi). Despite U.S. food safety regulations, many fermented foods are safe to store and eat at room temperature.

I'd eat turkey SPAM Lite with a Pabst Blue Ribbon chaser before I'd eat this;

Question Little Debbie Nutty Bars?

Not a temperature issue, but since we've moved to the BI, my wife has had a craving for Little Debbie Nutty Bars. Have bought them a various locations in Kona and Hilo, and the "Use By" date is always covered up with a little white label that is about 60 days past the factory date. I checked the other Little Debbie stuff (this was at Safeway)and they all had the same little white labels extending the use by date. And they are not fresh by any means.

I understand why they also cover up the $1.89 price with a bright orange sticker (the Island price is between 5.50 and 6.99!) but I'm surprised about the dating issue.

Mahalo.
