Default Aloha from Puako!

We have been in Puako since Tuesday night....what a beautiful place!

Puako is on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island and is a small beach community (with many vacation rentals): Here is a link to the community website: Puako Community (You can find Vacation Rentals at the VRBO website: Big Island Vacation Rentals - VRBO® Vacation Rentals by Owner Big Island Hawaii Just look under "Kohala Coast" for "Puako".)

We went to the Seafood Bar at the Harbor Grill on our first night: The Seafood Bar in Kawaihae on the Island of Hawaii. Their Oysters Rockefellar are the main reason we go there....yum! Last night we were treated to Roy's, known for Hawaiian fusion cusine: Roy's Restaurant - Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine The rest of our week will be a little more casual, but I can guarantee we will be back for Oysters at the Seafood Bar!

As many of us have mentioned on the forum, it is rainy season in Hawaii...it is so nice to be on this side of the island taking a break from the Hilo rains! We are loving the sounds of the birds in the morning and the sound of the ocean just across the street at night....this is truly Paradise!

I'll try to post some photos later this week--this, I think, is my favorite place on any of the Islands...Aloha and Happy Valentines Day from Puako!

Paniolo Cowgirl is on a distinguished road
I used to spend holiday weekends at my aunty's house in Puako back in the '70's. It's still there. It's one of the beaten up shacks across the street from one of the beaches.

We used to go fishing at the pier there and pick opihi from the seashore.

Yes, Puako is a beautiful place.

A seafood grill at Kawaihae? Sheesh, I haven't been there since the 70's when it was just the wharf, the heiau and the beach. I guess I should check it out. When I'm out that way I take the Old Mamalahoa Hwy. I don't ever go down to the Queen Kaahumanu Hwy. cause of the traffic.

Are there more businesses there? Is there an actual community at Kawaihae?
