Default yet another moving thread :)

Hi All,

I am looking for some advice. My Husband and I will be moving to Oahu in August. He is going to be stationed at Ft. Shafter for a couple years and then probably transferred up to Schofield. There is a good chance I will be working in Honolulu, but thats all up in the air. Like everyone, we both would like relatively easy commutes and a nice area to live in. I currently spend about 1.5 to 2 hours commuting into Boston everyday so anything under an hour would feel like winning the lottery to me. So with that, here is my slew of questions.

What areas would you recommend? (we have no children, so schools are not an issue)

Is it worth buying vs. renting?

Would we be better of renting closer to shafter during the time we are there and then moving to a location closer to schofield instead of finding an in between spot and sticking there?

Is traffic from the east side of Honolulu worse/same/ better than if we are coming from the west?

Thanks so much for reading all of this! I really appreciate the help!

If you decide to RENT something I'm told by my soldier mate that there is in fact a website for landlords offering accommodation to soldiers and familes...good luck.

TERRIE will become famous soon enoughTERRIE will become famous soon enough
The good news is that you won't have to commute 1 1/2 to 2 hours unless you live all the way west and have to go to Hon. to work. Check out Mililani,Waikele,Kapolei these are all nice towns and you'll have your choice of modern to older homes in these areas and they are all within about 20 min to scholfeild. As far as buying vs renting, keep your eye on the market,it will depend on your particular finances and preferences. good luck
