Hawaii Kai has just fenced up a new dog park (well small dog park) across from the satellite police station. Traffics always bad at UH and Manoa for that matter during rush hours.
Leehigh has it right, live in Manoa for a bit maybe off Dole or Punahou street in the condos there. you can pay from 900 to 1500 easy and you can walk to UH easily. Parking is bad in that area, though. Then move to Hawaii Kai if you don't like it. Good luck and congratulations. I would suggest a bicycle for your commute around the UH campus, if your going to live in the area. UH campus is spread out, a bicycle would make it so much easier on you.
