So, I'm starting to arrange shipping my car and my stuff. I've found lots of different companies, and I'm just curious if anyone has had really good (or really bad) experiences with any of them.

For the car, I guess I'm leaning towards Pasha. They are about the same price, give an estimated arrival date, the car is shipped enclosed (no sea air and water damage), and their schedule works OK for me. Has anyone had a negative experience with them? (And BTW, why is my tiny little Mini Cooper the same price to ship as a giant SUV? I thought it would depend on size and weight of the vehicle, but it doesn't seem to!)

For the stuff, we don't have a full container load, but we do have a few pieces of furniture that we are attached to and plan to bring. So we need more than just shipping a few boxes of clothes USPS. We have seen partial containers or pallets available from:

Dependable Hawaiian Express
DHX - Dependable Hawaiian Express

Estes Express
Estes Express Lines

West Point Relocation
West Point Relocation, Inc. - Moving and Shipping to Hawaii

We can get estimates of cost from each one, but the costs should pretty much be covered by my relocation money. So the bigger question is who is reliable... who will pick up stuff on time and ship it safely? Any comments or experiences to share? Other recommendations that are not on my list?

Thanks in advance!

Oh, I should mention... the stuff (furniture, etc.) is coming from the East Coast. So anyone with experience of these companies and an East Coast move?

Please be aware that consumer complaints are not allowed here. The company one complains about aren't able to defend themselves. If a member does have a complaint, just send the OP a DM. Thanks,

Where are you moving to? my husband is also going to be a professor at UH in Hilo. We're moving in July and we're working on these same issues so I'm anxious to see the responses to this.

We're also planning on moving at the end of July.

For shipping my car, I'm leaning towards using shipmyvehicle.com. I got a quote for my car for $1177 to ship from Oakland, CA to Honolulu. They ship the car in a container so its full enclosure.

Moving company wise, we're getting an estimate from a Japanese company called Yamato Transport - they're known in Japan for being really good with moving and move things with care. They might be a bit pricey, but we'll see how that goes. We don't have that much stuff but we do want to take a few large furniture pieces with us.

I'm thinking of getting estimates from American moving companies, such as Atlas Van Lines - and I'll check out DHX as well.

i moved here from california, and used matson shipping. they were right on. my car actually got here before the estimated date....probably the only time anything got done on time out here. i didnt bring any furniture, but did ship out my bedding....i have heard though of people going halves on containers, if they cant fill it up. try listing it on craigs list, that you have a container shipping to maui, from where and the date, you might find someone who would want to share the space and the costs.

Other than Matson, Pasha or Horizon, any other company is most likely using one of those 3 carriers anyway since they own the ships...

I don't believe that the Big Island even has a Mini dealership? If so, I would not ship it as how in the heck would you get any service other than having it shipped to Honolulu via barge and back? That would cost around $300 per round trip if I recall the pricing correctly!

A BMW Dealership can service a Mini. BMW bought the Mini brand from the Rover Group in 2000, and now build them .
