hey spaceship, any specific reasons you are heading back to the mainland? where are you headed? Im originally from suburbia of New York, then attended school in Boston, MA. I was first planning on heading right over the san francisco/ oakland or san diego, but I decided I needed a break from mainland city life for a while- so hectic, fast pasted and all. so yea, I kind of just came up with this idea of working in hawaii for a year. I guess i say im young and adventurous enough to make monstrous changes like that still haha.

Default fast pace

its fast pace in hawaii ... this is not eternal vacation .. theres a million people on oahu and there are only 3 major highways ... they call it the H1 parking lot for a reason sometimes it can take 2-3 hours driving in to town ... h1 is the only major road to connect the central, North and West side of the island to down town where almost everyone works

i looked at a 1200 sq foot house in kailua ... it was ok , no yard but they wanted $930,000 for it

alot of people coming here expecting less demands and an easier life only to find the opposite is true

if u can go to maui or Big Island just as expensive but much less people

Ironic but true. Many people come here thinking it will be relaxing but end up working two jobs to make ends meet. For the people who really want to be in Hawaii, and not the "idea" of Hawaii, they will do whatever it takes to stay.

Cars are cheap to buy, well depending where you go. For someone moving over to NZ and coming from America, I think you will love the peaceful lifestyle, however for me I have lived it too long and want to venture out and expand my branches as my aunt puts it. LOL.
That is what we wanted, less crime, and our Government sucks too, so I guess no matter where you go, you will have that problem We really want the peace and quiet of Nz. It's just soooo hard to get into that country to live and work. Oh well. sigh..
I hope everything works out for you, I'm glad that you have the ability to expand your branches! I can understand if your life is always one way, you might want to change it, I know we do. The grass is always greener on the otherside!! We are ready to get the heck out of here too! Let us know how you do, will ya?

What Island are you moving to? That makes a difference for one thing. Maui is small but more crowded and more expensive. No worries about being robbed if you apply the same common sense you would at home.
I live on the Big Island, and live alone. I have never been robbed, and never assaulted. I am very happy here. It all depends on what you are looking for. This Island is less populated and for some that is too slow, but for me it's just right. Let me know where you are going, and I will try to describe it for you, and the people as well. Take care.

808,
yea, sorry if i made it sound like i planned on moving to work and live a care-free, easy, vacation-esque life. I was looking at places to stay and do farm work in kailua- kona on the big island and also on Molokai, so I specifically sought out smaller areas. I am aware that a large portion of products are imported, and prices are higher, and the cost of living is higher in general. I made arrangements where I will get a place to stay and some food as well, and I realize that plans can fall through and things might not work out, but I am completely comfortable with it. It will be a fairly short period of time (4-12 months), and I just really plan on making it into this great experience.

But yea, it will really just be a shorter period of time, and Im specifically going to smaller towns for a slower pace.

Default Well...

It seems that Tarla has landed on the Big Island. Let's see if we hear back and how we can help, huh?
