Default Highest gas prices in the nation? Not anymore!

I'm not speaking for the outer islands but I just filled up my gas tank tonight for $3.61/gallon at the Iwilei (Honolulu) Costco. Later in the evening I turned on CNN and saw that the national average is now at $3.62/gallon. So I paid one cent less per gallon than the average person in the United States. Gas prices on Oahu have historically ran about 20-25% more than the average mainland price. I wonder if this means our prices are about to skyrocket to well over $4.00/gallon.

I know the outer islands are experiencing gas prices considerably higher than that here on Oahu, but I never thought I would see the day where I could fill up my tank for less than the average person in the US. Amazing.

the station I can see from my window says $3.94. I passed one that said $4.05 or something the other day.

Chicago has had the highest for a while, I thought. Good thing I don't have a car.

There is a couple reasons why gas prices are always higher in Hawaii than the mainland.

1) Some of the highest state gas taxes.
2) The land costs a fortune so higher prices for the land cost are passed along to the consumer.
3) Additional costs of import (this is minor compared to the 2 above)

Unhappy Maui/NorCal

Not any more. We're matching Maui now. I paid $3.97 at COSTCO yesterday and other stations here are charging $4.14 for regular.
