It has been five months, yet the impact has only increased. Before we visited, I was warned about "culture shock." What I found was more comfort than shock. I felt like I was finally "home."
Since I've returned to the mainland, I have become more involved in the issues of the mainland's indigenous peoples, I keep a smile when stuck in rush hour traffic, I stop to let other drivers turn in front of me, whenever I find myself getting stressed or angry I take a step back and take in the beauty of the world around me, et cetera. I have become a more relaxed, happy, and spiritual person. My entire outlook on life has changed, for the better. Oh yeah, I also do not particularly like Mustang convertibles much anymore.
I can't wait to come "home" again. Hopefully, I can make "home" my permanent home someday. If nothing else, the wife and I are making plans to come back this winter, and this time we're bringing the kids. We spent our life savings to visit in the first place, and are saving every penny we can to do it again.
