Default moving to hawaii on a shoe string budget

Hi all

this is my 1st time here...

I was wondering if anyone has moved without alot of cash. no house to sell for cushion...no one there to pick them up from the airport...or to help find a place to live...

hubby and I have been to Hawaii 11 times..and as married there 11 years ago...

I keep finding threads where people move..but have a lot of stuff to sell...we are as poor as church mice...

any suggetions would be great!

save up as much as u can. i moved out here with $3000 and it was cutting it pretty close. id say move with 5000-10,000. that way u can get into a place for sure. i didnt have a ride from the airport. but i took the bus around all day. ended up getting off at a shopping center. were i found a computer. used craigs list to find a place and a job. and even a truck. then 17 days later my car arrived from CA.

good luck with that. What island are you moving to? you should find the local newspaper online for that island and look through the classified adds or craigslist. i live on the big island, if thats where your moving i might be able to give you more info.

I would second Kyusa's comments. Hawaii is enormously expensive to start with, and in the past year we've had the demise of two airlines serving the islands and the price of fuel has gone through the roof. These developments will only make it more expensive, and could hit the tourism-based economy here pretty hard. At the very least, I would stay put for now until we see how the developments of the past year play out.

thanks for the suggstion..but I believe there are people that aren't well off that have made the jump...and I'll keep looking until I find them and ask how they did it.

I would never discourage anyone from going after their dream...no matter has silly it sounded to me!
