Talking Moving to Maui - plane leaves June 17th!

I posted a similar thread a few months back when I was still in the somewhat 'not for sure' stage, but I am going to make the jump next Tuesday.

The tickets were outrageous ($1,200 a piece, $2,600 for two tickets and a car rental for two weeks). I had some unexpected dental work come up that took a chunk out of my moving fund (about $600 to be exact) so I'll be on a tighter string than initially thought.

I'm basically moving with the clothes off my back and other little neccessities and taking roughly 3.5k with me to pay for first months rent and what else I might need. I'm hoping to find a room in Lahaina or Kihei with some people, which I believe would be the best way to meet people and also have cheaper rent. Hoping to be within walking distance to work, then I could just buy a bike instead of a cheap car right off the bat, but may be unlikely.

I might have a job right now depending on whether or not I want it. It involves pushing tourists into the water on the beach for a guy that teaches surf lessons. It would be $10 an hour but I'm hoping to have atleast a couple jobs going at the same time.

I have resume hardcopies I'm taking with me and might be faxing some to various places before I leave. I think I have a good resume overall.

Any tips are appreciated, but for now I can absolutely not wait to move over there. Hawaii is absolutley beautiful and I have been longing to return, though I haven't been to Maui (only Oahu). I know it will change me for the better.

Thanks for the reply. I'm very aware of how expensive it is to live there. I'm in talks with a house that includes two women and they need someone to rent the other room for $700. They are in Lahaina and that is where I want to live because of the job opporunities near there.

Anyone's two-cents on living in Lahaina being a 20 year old male?

If Lahaina is too slow, there's always Honolulu.

It is an island, too, so always say nice things about everyone since you all have to live together.
