Ala Moana Real Estate (Honolulu: for sale, condos, hotel)

Has anyone (or anyone you know) bought into Ala Moana Condotel, located adjacent to Ala Moana Shopping Center? The studios are tiny and without cooking facilities, and the building itself nearly 40 years (although renovated in 2005) but the relatively affordable price for this retiree on a modest budget coupled with the convenient location have me seriously considering a purchase...Would greatly appreciate any info / experiences / advice regarding this building, as well as other new condo developments in the area (Capitol Place, Keola La'i, Moana Vista, ...). these are not for owner occupants. if your goal was to live in it, you;ll need to keep looking.

most are selling for far less than they were a couple years back so that should tell you something. I do not think they have reached their lowest point.

Then check the 2nd link for an extensive list of condos for sale in Waikiki-Honolulu. Choose from about 10 buildings on left, click and get floorplans, prices, pics, descriptions, the whole nine yards. But be prepared to be sticker shocked! And 90% of all units have sold!

Not sure if you are living in Hawaii or not but you also need to consider the maintenance costs in addition to the price of the unit at Ala Moana Hotel. read the fine print. If you're not from Hawaii consider the cost of living in addition to weather and quality of life. Not cheap.

Lot of my friends say build quality on Moana Pacific is not good (same developer as Moana Vista) so you make the call. Keola Lai and Capitol Place are over priced in my opinion. If you're open to even consider Ala Moana Hotel, I suggest you look in Makiki which for 1/2 the price you will get an older unit. Spend the other half travelling.

I hear that! Even the build quality on their website is not good.
