This is "Aloha Spirit"--you see a lot of it around here. When I first moved here and was lost, people knocked themselves out to help me along . . .
Let's face it--moving to an island thousands of miles from home into a culture that is quite different from what we're used to is very intimidating--at least it was for me, and I don't intimidate easily.
So here I am sitting around on a Sunday morning thinking about taking a walk, and this person just provided me with an interesting purpose and destination for my walk, together with an opportunity to enhance my self-esteem--I call that a good deal all around!
Right about now it's starting to get cold and miserable back home and here I am trotting around in shorts and tank top, In another month I'll be able to see those morning news shows where they show the blizzards and the endless lines of cars stalled on snow-choked freeways trying to go to work (in the dark). (I'll still be in my shorts and tank top!)
I served my time in that hell--Who wouldn't be grateful to live in Hawaii?!?
Gratitude and joy in our good fortune is behind the Spirit of Aloha!
